Certificate; Wetzler, Martin; Crefsman, Johannes; Rockhill Township, Pennsylvania, United States; Reading, Pennsylvania, United States; 1849 October 28
Description:
Baptismal and birth certificate (Taufschein) printed in Reading, Pennsylvania by Johann Ritter. The certificate is filled out in black ink to mark the birth of Johannes Crefsman, son of Jacob and Maria in 1824. In 1849, the printed certificate seems to have been re-decorated by the Jewish scrivener Martin Wetzler who adds color as well as an inscription in red ink marking the confirmation in 1843 and marriage in October 1849 of the child. Wetzler also adds a star of David as well as his own name in Yiddish.
