Photographer's note: The white obelisk of Nişantaşu, at the corner of Valikinak and Rumeli Streets, indicates the spot which the Sultan's archers once used for target practice. It also marks one of the boundaries of a fashionable neighborhood where many if Istanbul's Jews live.
