Oil painting on canvas depicting famed Jewish naval captain Jonas P. Levy's ship, the USS America, during the Mexican-American war. The lower part of painting contains two lines of text: "Transport the America under Capt. J. P. Levy bound from Vera Cruz to N.O." Provenance: This painting hung at Monticello during its ownership by Jefferson Levy and was later given to Thomas L. Rhodes with other Levy items. By descent in the Rhodes family before being purchased by Arnold and Deanne Kaplan.
