Black-and-white photographic prints and contact sheets depicting demonstrations and protests led by Act-Up regarding the AIDS crisis. Prints feature portraits and candid photographs related to accessibility to universal AIDS care and medication, health services in prisons, transgender rights, a local Republican fundraiser, and former Vice President Al Gore's presence in Philadelphia to call for support supplying care and medication to South Africans with AIDS. ACT UP (AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power) is a diverse, non-partisan group of individuals, united in anger and committed to direct action to end the AIDS crisis. Harvey Finkle (born March 28, 1934) is a self-taught documentary still photographer who has documented the social, economic, cultural, and political issues in the city of Philadelphia and across the globe. Finkle's work largely focuses on historically marginalized communities, including low income and homeless families, homeless veterans, refugees, immigrants, and disabled people, providing documentation of activism in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and focuses on social injustices in the city, the country, and the world.
