Portraits of Rachel Josephson (1732-1797) and Manuel Josephson (1729-1796) by Lawrence Kilburn (1720-1775). Possibly commissioned on the occasion of their marriage in 1759. Oil on canvas, both paintings measure 73.7 x 61.6cm. Formerly attributed to the painter Jeremiah Theus. Provenance: Dr. I. Minnis Hays of Philadelphia (1926); Sold at Freeman's Philadelphia to Joseph S. Sorger in 1974; Sold at Freeman's Philadelphia from Sorger's collection, 5 October 2010, lot 169.
