Edward H. Sothern and Marlowe began a collaboration in Romeo and Juliet at the Illinois Theatre, Chicago, 1904, and eventually married. They played together as Beatrice and Benedick, Ophelia and Hamlet, Katherine and Petruchio, Viola and Malvolio, Portia and Shylock, and the Macbeths. Both were good friends of Horace Howard Furness.; Notes about Mary Anderson: Late 19th century Shakespearean actress; performed transatlantically.; Notes about Henry Irving: Acted with Ellen Terry from 1878 to 1902.
