Description:
Expenses for food and drink; household items such as soap, candles, and charcoal; household equipment such as dishes, decanters, pudding pans, and a carpet broom; services such as washing and transportation; and wages for servants. These are recorded at the item level chronologically from 1767 to 1772 and again in 1776 (f. 2v-64r). Starting in 1777, expenses are recorded at the level of bills paid to vendors, grouped by category, with sections, often starting on new pages, for butter, eggs, fish, poultry, charwomen, house, rabbits, lemons, baker, fishmonger, greengrocer, oil man, tallow chandler, washing, brewer, milk and cream, coal merchant, confectioner, and servants' journey (f. 64v-134r). The last pages of the volume are used for records of wages and include repeated signatures by women servants to acknowledge receipt of wages.between 1776 and 1785 (f. 134v-140r), with one receipt from 1794 noted on the last page (f. 140r).
