Notes about Julia Marlowe: Born in England, Marlowe came to America in 1870 and became a star when she appeared as Juliet in New York in 1887. Edward H. Sothern and Marlowe began a collaboration in Romeo and Juliet at the Illinois Theatre, Chicago, 1904, and eventually married. They played together as Beatrice and Benedick, Ophelia and Hamlet, Katherine and Petruchio, Viola and Malvolio, Portia and Shylock, and the Macbeths. Both were good friends of Horace Howard Furness.; Ye Rose Studio 385 Westminster St., Providence, R.I. Duplicates can be ordered at studio.; Verso reads: "Portraits by photography Ye Rose Studio elegantly appointed specialty high class portraits from cabinet to life size Providence R.I.
