Description:
Three documents of the Continental Congress.; One document, dated 9 January 1776 in Philadelphia, is an export permit addressed to the Committee of Inspection of the Colony of New Hampshire, authorizing John Langdon of New Hampshire to serve as an export agent for produce of the United Colonies. It is signed by Samuel Ward, John Alsop, Josiah Bartlett, Robert Morris and Benjamin Franklin, who comprise the Committee of Secrecy of the Continental Congress. It is countersigned by John Hancock. It is accompanied by a clipping from a catalog describing it.; The second document is a resolution dated 15 March 1776, instructing the Governor of Connecticut and "the conventions or councils or committees of safety of New York and New Jersey" to prepare their state militias to march to the defense of New York at the discretion of the continental commander at New York. Extracted from the minutes and signed by Charles Thomson, secretary of the Congress; countersigned and addressed to the Convention of New York by John Hancock.; The third document, dated 25 February 1778, is a committee of treasury report extracted from the minutes and signed by Charles Thomson. It authorizes a sum of money to be reimbursed to Richard Stockton for a journey he made to Ticonderoga in the fall of 1777; the amount is payable to Dr. Benjamin Rush.
