Play: Hamlet; Notes about E. H. Sothern: Actor who was born in New Orleans, educated in England, and made his New York debut in 1879. Julia Marlowe and Sothern began a collaboration in Romeo and Juliet at the Illinois Theatre, Chicago, in 1904, and eventually married. They played together as Beatrice and Benedick, Ophelia and Hamlet, Katherine and Petruchio, Viola and Malvolio, Portia and Shylock, and the Macbeths. Both were good friends of Horace Howard Furness.; Ira D. Schwarz.
