Handwritten manuscript by C. Hermann Berendt on lined paper, containing approximately 250 vocabulary entries in Spanish and Bribri. According to a note on the title page, the vocabulary was collected by Philipp J. J. Valentini in the province of Limón, Costa Rica, among the Blancos Indians. The manuscript has the appearance of an informal draft. Some Spanish words lack a Bribri equivalent. There is occasional use of headings, such as for different categories of animals. The manuscript leaves were originally folded and tipped in on a flyleaf inside of contemporary paper covers, which accompany the manuscript. On the cover Berendt dates the vocabulary to the decade of the 1860s, presumably with reference to Valentini's collecting of it.

Between the lines of the title written in ink, an alternate title is written in pencil: Diccionario de palabras de los indios blancos.; This was the seventeenth of 19 manuscripts formerly bound together, probably by Daniel Garrison Brinton, and now disbound (Items 129-136, 143, 145, 146, 151-155, and 157-159). The bound volume had the spine title: Languages of Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.; The bound volume in which the manuscript was originally contained is described in Weeks, John M. The Library of Daniel Garrison Brinton (University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, 2002), p. 68-70 (no. 388); however, the details given for the seventeenth manuscript in the volume mistakenly refer to a different item by Philipp J.
