A volume comprising the daily credit and debit accounts of Block & Levy Co. in San Rafael, California spanning the months from November 1859 to January 1860 and from July to October 1864. The account book documents the credit and debit entries of customer transactions. Included are entries of purchases of various dry goods and sundries. Customer names are often listed along with their purchases. Patrons such as John Black, Francisco Leon, Rufus Osgood, Old Man and Salvador Ppacheco, and Switzer Ranch appear throughout the volume. Some items sold and purchased included bacon, eggs, blankets, boots, buckets, candles, coffee, flour, fabric, matches, pork, , socks, sugar, tea, tobacco, and whiskey. Written on first page: Block & Levy Co., San Rafael, Marin County, Emanuel Block III, Emanuel Levy. Other signatures in the volume include D. Block, Maurice Levy, and Philip Rothschild.

Block & Levy Co. owned and operated a general store during the 19th century located in San Rafael, Marin County, California. The company was operated by Jewish merchants Emanuel Block, III and Emanuel Levy. Other members of the Levy family were also part of the company including Maurice L. and D. Block. The company served members of the San Rafael and surrounding communities in Marin County such as Point Black.
