Two items are letters of resignation, the letter dated 1840 may be from a different individual from the earlier two. Letter to Roberts Vaux dated June 19, 1820 tells of Charles Roberts' experiences as a cowboy, where he learned to slit the tongues of cattle to keep them from sucking.
