A panoramic view of the city of Cairo shows a mosque.; The photograph is in a book with a typed description. The description: "(Leviticus, xxiv:1.) We are viewing this city from the Citadel, which is a small town in itself, and was built by Mohammed Ali. From the Citadel we have a fine view of Cairo. The pyramids are in the distance to the west, and the Nile is seen winding its way toward the sea between. Cairo has a population of about 500,000. It has absorbed into itself and may be called the modern representative of Memphis and Heliopolis, and the surrounding cities of ancient times. The Khedive spends part of the year here. Cairo was the home of the distinguished pasha who aided DeLesseps in opening the Suez canal. It is a strange commentary upon history that this region, once swept by the Pharaohs, should now be under the dominion of a Christian nation. The English soldier is seen on all sides in Cairo." "Franklin Co Eng-Chi" is printed at the bottom of the photograph. "D" is printed at the bottom of the page.
