François Pinguet de Suzemont genealogical table, between 1650 and 1699

Timespan:
Early works to 1800
Date:
1650
Description:
Engraved form for recording names of four generations of direct ancestors of an individual, with 16 shields across the top for the coats of arms of the great-great-grandparents' families, foliate links between the generations, three blank cartouches at the bottom and a blank scroll across the top. The engraving is signed D. Mathaeus Husson L'escossoys (Matthaeus Husson L'Escossois). This copy of the form has the names filled in for the 15th- and 16th-century ancestors of François Pinguet de Suzemont, chevalier-seigneur de Suzemont and baron de Fontoy, generally from aristocratic families in the Lorraine region. Many of the men served in the Parlement de Metz, including François Pinguet de Suzemont, beginning in 1672, so perhaps he was born in the 1650s and this form filled out some time in the second half of the 17th century. The coats of arms at the top have been painted to represent the Pinguet, La Ruelle, Mercklin, Haut de Sancy, Raulet, Beuvin, Martin, Bigin, de Mageron, Le Foulon, Serinchamps, Vivry, François, de Betainvillers, Clement, and Lescuyer families, and the foliate ornamentation has been colored with an ink wash. On the verso are a filing title (Arbre de ligne de la maison de Pinguet) in ink and "No. 16a" in red ink, added later. Formerly folded in quarters with sharp folds remaining.
