Description:
Notarial records of canon law proceedings in 1588 and 1589 concerning the collegiate church of San Antolin in Medina del Campo, Spain, in the diocese of Salamanca. The first part of the records (f. 1-56) is written in part in the margins of papal documents printed in gatherings of four in folio format: five copies of Pope Sixtus V's Motu proprio in favorem Collegiatae Sancti Antolini Metimnae Campi of 1588 (f. 2-5, 9-12, 15-18, 25-28, 53-56, with the final blank leaf of each covered with manuscript notes) and a copy of Pope Sixtus IV's Motu proprio creationis Collegiatae Sancti Antolini Methimnae Campi probably printed in the 1570s (f. 20r-23v). The manuscript records refer to Annibale Grassi (1537-1590, appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Spain in 1588, f. 41r, 42v, 48r, 65r) and Lorenzo Bianchetti (1545-1612, from 1572 to 1597 auditor of the Roman Rota, the highest ecclesiastical court of the Catholic Church, f. 79r, front cover).
