View of Hebron.; The photograph is in a book with a typed description in French and English. The English translation: "The ancient Qiriat-Arba, today El-Khalil, about 20 kilometres to the south of Bethlehem, is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is supposed to have been built seven years before Tanis in Egypt. Abraham sojourned and was buried here together with Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Leah and Jacob. David was anointed king and dwelt at Hebron during the first seven years of his reign. It was here that Joab assassinated Abner and that Absalom set up his head-quarters. After being taken by the Crusaders, Hebron was made the seat of a bishopric under the name of St-Abraham. The present population is 10 000. -- The massive building, flanked by two minarets, to be seen to the left of the photograph, is the mosque of Abraham and is given in detail in the two following plates." The initials "B+P" are printed in the lower right corner. A small "28" is printed at the bottom of the page.; The photograph was not catalogued by Lazard--it was catalogued at LKCAJS.; Condition: Good
