Two men on mules look towards a lake from the top of a hill.; The photograph is in a book with a typed description in French: "Le lac Mérom, aujourd'hui lac de Houlé, est un bassin triangulaire de 5 mètres de profondeur; il est à 83 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la Méditerranée. Il est entouré de marais peuplés de pélicans et de canards, où se vautrent les buffles des Bédouins. Du côté Nord, les papyrus forment un fourre impénétrable. Ce lac a été regardé comme le Khoul araméen, Gen., X., 23. Josué battit sur ses bords les Cananéens alliés de Jabin, roi d'Hazor, Josué, XI. Le Jourdain le traverse."
